Pre-Writing Boards Montessori

Children in a Montessori environment learn to write first before they learn to read. This approach is organic, as children are able to put the letters for the sounds they know together into a word before they are ready to interpret and string together the sounds of a word on a page. Pre-Writing skills are needed before any letter formation or other handwriting skills are mastered.
In Montessori, we are having pre-writing boards to help the child.

Curves,

Straight lines,

and Zigzags
Our prewriting tracing set helps young children learn about pattern and symbol making as well as shapes and lines. Use a pencil or crayon to trace onto paper and then your child can further use the paper with scissors to cut out the lines they drew onto the paper. The three boards can be changed to let the child practice a different hand movement. Large wooden knobs enable the child to easily move from one end of the board to the next. The child moves the knob around the curve. To improve coordination, the pincer grip and the movements necessary to write many letters.
Moving and handling:
children show good control and co-ordination in large and small movements. They move confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating space. They handle equipment and tools effectively, including pencils for writing. Additional boards are available separately that focus on key movements for letter formation

Children can also use a finger to feel the pattens in a tactile, hands-on way. By using their hands, the board provides your child with sensory stimulation and also develops their understanding of shapes, patterns, and lines.
