Introduction

Man is a social animal so getting skills in social dealings is very important in development. Getting acquainted with social life is a very important criteria in one’s personality development.

Erik Homburger Erikson

According to Erikson the social life of a man goes over eight crisis stages. If they overcome each stage successfully, then they can achieve a successful and effective social and mental life. The stages are described below:-

a. Basic belief / unbelief:
If a child get care and belongings up to the age of one /one and half, he/ she feels faith and safety about his/her surroundings. If not, he/she express unbelief and insecurity.

b. Self-sufficient / shyness:
If a child gets good guardianship in between 1.5 to 3.5/ 4 years of age, he/she shows more self-sufficient and self-control. If we prevent it by saying don’t do it more times, the child will develop more shyness.

c. Take initiative / guilt:
From 3.5 to 6 years of age, children show more imagination, effort to show skills in plays, tendency to lead others etc. If they are not getting chances or permission to show these things, they become fearful, show shyness in group activities and show no imagination.

d. Activeness / Shyness (7 to 12 years of age):
In this stage Erikson called school age, children interact with their similar age children effectively, change into more systematic plays and take learning as seriously. Children who do not complete the previous stages successfully, may show shyness and fear in this stage.

e Personality Formation / Personality Trouble:
From 13 to 20 years of teenage stage, who am I? What is my role in society? Like that, different questions may come. The children need to solve these issues and need to identify his/her correct role in the society. Erikson says that such people get a successful life in future / later.

f Strong relation / Loneliness:
He says that young age is a period of feeling a strong friendship or relationship. If it is not possible, they feel loneliness.

g Creativity / stillness:
If anyone did not get gratification in middle age as a guardian, the result will be stillness.

h Integrity / Despite:
After 60 years of age, if any person did not get satisfaction about their past period, he/ she may reach in contempt and spite.

Albert Bandura

Bandura found that visual media influences children very much and they imitate and depend on the way of behaviour of parents and elders. To prove these conclusions, he conducted an experiment with children and with Bobo puppets.
He showed a video of a television model cruelly attacking a big puppet. After showing the video allowed the children to sit in a room having beautiful play equipment. But they did not show any interest in playing with those equipment’s. After that they were brought into a room and showed a puppet the same as in the video. Then 33% of the children started to attack the puppet cruelly.
In short, observation and imitation is the base of social development. Bandura found that, an incident or phenomenon if observed carefully, it exists in our long term memory and it becomes a social habit. He also found encouragement, prizes etc. stimulates the formation of habits.
