Introduction

Emotional tensions affect the growth and development adversely. Emotional control and a peaceful mind are essential for development. Catherin Bridges classifies the emotional development in a child in the below ways:-
a. Born stage – excitement
b. 3 months – distress, delight
c. 6 months – anger, fear, disgust.
d. 12 months – love, elation.
e. 18 months – envy , love towards elders, affection with children
f. 2 years – joy ( at 2 years of age all major emotions will be express)

The Creative Emotions in Childhood.

1. Love: A child loves the person who helps to fulfil his/her likes, pet animals, birds, play equipment etc. The love that they receive in childhood influences his/her emotional expression. It says that, to love to be loved. If a child receives love from their teachers, then he/she accepts the teachers as a model and loves others and society.
Love is the noblest need of a man. Children want love more than anybody. A teacher should express love rather than keeping it. Holding belongings, touch, affection, smile, talking, care etc. are the ways of expressing love. The teacher should be able to create a feeling in children that they are getting love (to be loved).
Many children from different families do not get real love. Some parents think that love means buying and giving things children demand. If they did not get real love they start looking for people and places where they can find it.
Touch is the most suitable way of expressing love. It starts from the embrace to a new born baby. All people need strokes for living. A person becomes healthy only if he gets physical and mental strokes. Nobody likes avoidance. According to the theory of Eric Berne, if children did not get any positive strokes like love and recognition, they will do mischief in order to invite negative strokes like firing, advice etc. If any child shows faults or obstinacy, we need to trace out the reason behind it.
Children coming from families with sufficient love, they think about school with little fear. This can be solved by the lovable dealing of the teacher. The school should be the second house of children. The teacher should be the mother in the school.
Many children become obstinate and angry and have other behavioural problems because of the absence of love from parents and teachers in childhood. Remember, getting love is the birth right of each child. The teacher has the liability to give it without any condition or limit.

2. Curiosity: The tendency of children to know about their surroundings and world is inborn. Always encourage the child’s habit of asking questions and his interest in playing. Curiosity helps in increasing creativity, imagination, intelligence and also helps in learning and discovering knowledge.

The Negative Feelings in Childhood:

1. Fear: If a person thinks or feels as a thing, person or an incident as apart from him, that creates fear in him. The sense of twice is the basic reason behind fear. In practical terms, fear comes from experiences and imitations.
Ignorant teachers and parents are the reason behind the unnecessary fear in children. They are getting things done with children by creating fear in them. When children do mischief, hesitant to eat food or doing anything they don’t like, the elders tell fearful things and stories. This causes bed wetting tendency & fearful crying while sleeping. Moreover, when they grow, this fear will not come down. They always behave like they lack confidence in future life also.

2 Jealousy: The feeling of displeasure or impatience towards others is jealous. If any child loses love or thinking comes to lose love, then jealousy comes. Birth of a new baby into the family, partiality, absence of care of others etc. also creates jealousy.
Jealousy sometimes leads to bad habits. It sometimes leads to spreading scandal and assault. Girls show more jealousy than boys.
It is better to avoid situations that create jealousy. Parents and teachers should take care of this matter. Don’t show any partiality to any student. Always treat all students as equal. If any student shows jealousy, don’t punish or accuse but try to identify the reason and solve it. Behave more lovely and show affection to that child.

3. Shyness: Shyness comes in children who undergo the blaming of others. Don’t blame any student in front of others. The silly faults bring into their attention only. Children having shyness don’t interfere with other children and always keep away from group activities. Give more encouragement to those children and allow them in all activities with love.
