Science is one of the most important subjects that have to be taught to children in the preschools. Teaching subjects like these require you to design certain activities through which you will be able to teach the children effectively, activities that will teach the concepts and stimulate curiosity. Some Activities Related to Science

 Floating with Boating

It is one of the popular science-based activities that help children understand the concept of buoyancy by playing in the water. Here, children are given some objects which they put in a bowl of water to test out which among them sinks and which of them stay afloat. Though this is a fun activity, as a teacher you must supervise your students at all times so they don’t put these in their mouths. Some of the objects that you can give them include plastic cards, sands, soap bars, sunflower seeds, etc.

  Dirt and Mud

This activity encourages children to explore the properties of different kinds of mud and dirt. You will give them magnifying glasses, tweezers, etc with which they will make the observations. You will help them understand how dirt is changed to mud and vice versa.

   Tracking of Animals

Children like animals and this activity provide a lot of fun for them. You can keep this activity in the curriculum and in a pre primary teacher training course, this activity is encouraged. In this activity naturally, there isn’t going to be any real-world animal tracking. You can draw some animal footprints in the mud, in a playground and ask them to find those out. This activity not only helps in the development of spatial, analytical and symbolic reasoning skills but also knowledge about the environment and nature.

   Experiments with Ice

Children are familiar with ice and water. The latter is a necessity but they do not have a complete idea of what these actually are, what they are made up of i.e. their compositions etc. This activity will provide them an opportunity to learn and understand through experiments and observations.

You can give the children a bowl of ice to play and after a while when they will start to melt, you can explain the reason for the melting. You must also encourage the kids to document their observations by drawing or having you take dictation in a notebook.

   Making Bricks

This is another scientific experiment that helps children in making and testing predictions. For this, you will require mud, water, dried leaves or grass, notebooks to record the results. Have your students mix out different kinds of mud with dried leaves or soils. Then have them pour the mixtures in different molds and label them with their respective recipes. After it has been finished ask them to predict what each mixture will turn out i.e. how the mud will change which recipe will form the best quality hard bricks. This question will make them think and to enrich the activity further, you can give them some clues to help them solve the problem quickly. There are other activities like these which are taught in the pre primary teacher training course.

   Using the Science Tools

This is actually not a complete activity as such. Some activities are designed to enhance scientific thinking and these require the usage of tools such as tweezers, magnifying glass, ruler, sticky tapes, etc. After completion of an activity where one or some of these tools were required, ask the children about how the tools were used. Sometimes, you can ask this question to your students randomly in the classroom.
