How Do High-Quality Training Activities in Montessori Education Prepare Teachers for a Diverse International Classroom?

The training for Montessori teachers, it is a very specific thing. You learn about the materials, the philosophy, the child’s development. But what about the world? A teacher who is trained in Italy and then moves to Japan, is she prepared? The training activities, they must not just be about the materials. They must be about the people. They must be about the cultures. A good training activity should be about role-playing. You are a teacher in India. The child has a certain cultural background. What do you do? The child is shy, but the Montessori philosophy says to be independent. There is a conflict. The training should prepare the teacher for this conflict. But most trainings, they are not doing this. It’s about the prepared adult, not the prepared environment. The prepared adult is the one who can adapt. The one who can see the child for who they are, not for who the book says they should be. A high-quality training activity, it must be about this. It must be about the inner work of the teacher. It must be about reflection. It must be about a journey. The materials, they are just the tools. The journey, it is the real training. This is a confusing thing to explain. A very confusing one.
